The hardest 100 in the world…

Best of luck to everyone out in Silverton this weekend running the Hardrock 100.  Karl Meltzer will be shooting for his 5th title, along with Betsy Kalmeyer, who will be out to get her 6th.  To challenge them will be newcomers to the race — Scott Jurek and Krissy Moehl.  Others who will want to be first to kiss the rock will be Paul Sweeney, Mark Hartell, and Kirk Apt — all former HR winners, and very capable of a sub-30 hour finish.  Keep an eye out for Diane Van Deren (2006 Bighorn winner) and Betsy Nye (2006 Wasatch winner) in the women’s race.  Other notables, will be the oldest competitor John Dewalt (age 71) going for his 12th Hardrock finish, and Jimmy Wrublik, will be the youngest at 18.  Hans is also running, and I believe this will be his 101st 100 mile race.  Finally, best of luck to the C4P alumni — Vicki Devita, Ric Hodges, Roch Horton, Scott Mills, Blake Wood, Bruce Grant, and Dave Terry.

Live updates here.

  1. I say GO Krissy! But the women’s race is definitely not without competition. Hopefully a woman will break 30 hours this year..

  2. I was wrong – it’ll be Han’s 100th 100M race, so appropriate. Good call on who to watch, it’s exciting! In girls also Emily Baer, winner of Zane Grey and Old Pueblo in screaming fast times.
