The Dipsea Demon – RIP

Jack Kirk, AKA The Dipsea Demon, died last week at the age of 100. He was a renowned runner, having completed The Dipsea Race, which started in 1905, a record 67 consecutive times, winning the race twice (age handicapped). Jack’s last complete finish was in 2003 — the following year, he made it up to the top of Cardiac Hill, where he collapsed. That was the last time he raced the Dipsea.

This summer, the top portion of the stairs will be rebuilt — the top step will read, “Jack Kirk/The Dipsea Demon”.
